Two-contact Magnetic Interfaces for Smart Mugs

A suitable circular docking arrangement can allow attachment from different angles within its designed mating geometry. Confirm the actual orientation range, seating and electrical assignment for the mug and base.

Interface Requirements for Heated Drinkware

A heated mug needs a power interface assessed against its heating load, temperatures and liquid exposure. A two-contact magnetic design may provide supply and return paths, but the complete appliance’s safety and structural integrity require separate product-level evaluation.

Heating-load Current Requirements

Size the contacts and complete conductor path for the heating element’s current and duty cycle. Verify resistance and temperature rise; the contact architecture alone does not guarantee fast heating or prevent overheating.

IP65–IP67 Protection Targets

A qualified sealing arrangement can address the specified IP65, IP66 or IP67 conditions. Confirm the tested state and liquid exposure. Those ratings do not establish dishwasher suitability, safe charging while wet or protection against every washing method and spill.

Guided Docking

N52 neodymium magnets are an original design example for guidance and retention. Confirm the selected material’s temperature limits and the mechanical locating features; magnet grade alone does not ensure perfect alignment or a fail-safe connection.

Custom Interface Development

17 Years of Manufacturing and Development Experience

A temperature-controlled vessel needs an interface matched to its electrical load and mechanical architecture. Our manufacturing experience supports a review of the custom contact, housing and docking requirements rather than assuming an off-the-shelf part is sufficient.

  • Solution development: define the electrical layout and mechanical interface from the initial concept.

  • Prototype and tooling development: use iterative samples and in-house tooling to evaluate the design and production process.

  • Precision manufacturing: plan assembly and quality controls for the required volume; automated production does not establish a zero-defect guarantee.

Common Questions

Review docking, exposure and service-life requirements for magnetic connections in heated drinkware.

Why Consider Two Magnetic Contacts for a Smart Mug?
A suitable two-contact assembly can provide charging power with guided placement onto a base. Compared with a particular port arrangement, it may reduce the precision needed during attachment. Verify the circular docking geometry and capture range; magnetic attraction alone does not eliminate alignment requirements.
What Water Protection Does the Mug Interface Need?
Water protection depends on the selected sealing design and verified assembly state. An IP67 target can be evaluated for an appropriate enclosure, while humidity and corrosion require their own exposure checks. A plated contact alone does not make the interface waterproof or guarantee charging reliability in every kitchen environment.
How Can Guided Attachment Improve Usability?
Bringing the mug toward its base or cable may allow the magnetic arrangement to assist seating within the intended range. The resulting convenience depends on the mechanical design. Contact pressure and rubbing still cause wear, so the interaction should not be described as frictionless or guaranteed to protect all internal components.
What Mating Life Can Be Evaluated for a Mug Connector?
Targets from 10,000 to 50,000 mating cycles can be considered for a suitable design and test method. Validate conductivity, corrosion behavior and retention after the required life and exposure tests. Gold plating is one possible finish, not a guarantee of unchanged performance over years of use.
Can the Mug Interface Be Customized?
With 17 years of manufacturing experience, our team can assess retention, contact allocation, package dimensions and the required IP target. Prototype and tooling work should be based on the mug’s actual current, temperature, liquid exposure and docking conditions.
