Connector Design and Supply FAQ
Can you develop a custom magnetic connector?
Yes. Our 17 years of manufacturing experience include solution development, prototyping and mold making. Pin count, magnetic force, housing shape and target IP protection can be adapted to the project. Verify any protection rating for the completed configuration.
How long do standard and custom orders take?
Standard models typically have lead times of 7-14 days. If a custom design needs new molds, allow about 2-3 weeks for prototyping. Mass production usually takes 3-4 weeks after that, depending on the order volume.
Can I evaluate samples before ordering in volume?
Yes. Magtor supplies samples for testing and validation, with stock items available to ship within 48 hours after payment. Custom prototypes can also be made so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and reliability before mass production.
Why work with Magtor on a magnetic connector project?
More than a decade of magnetic connector manufacturing has led to dedicated 30A high-current products and IP67 waterproof designs. Our connector applications include consumer electronics, wearables, smart home systems, medical equipment, industrial automation and robotics, drones and high-end electronics. We have supplied connection solutions to major international companies for many years.
Understanding the Magnetic Interface
Pogo pins, plastic parts and magnets form the main elements of a magnetic connector. Its structure uses magnetic attraction and repulsion to guide automatic attachment, while physical electrical contacts carry current, data or signals.
What influences magnetic holding force?
Device dimensions and the spring force associated with the female connector housing influence holding force. The stated design guidance compares magnetic force with the spring force of one pin: stronger retention calls for a larger magnet, while lower retention is paired with a weaker pin spring. A complete force balance must be checked for the actual multi-contact assembly and operating conditions so that insufficient retention does not leave the connection loose.
How does plating affect connector performance?
Plating the pogo pins influences connector cost, corrosion resistance and service life. Gold is the common coating choice. For some specialized applications, a composite of several plating materials may be selected to improve performance.

Eight Stages of Connector Production
Magtor controls quality throughout the connector production process, from the initial concept to the finished part. Personnel checks and instrument inspection work together at each stage.

Practical Benefits of Magnetic Connections
Magnetic force and the connector structure work together to create these benefits. Careful interface design makes magnetic connectors suitable for electronic device integration.
Automatic Magnetic Alignment
Magnetic attraction and repulsion guide the mating angle, bringing the connector parts into precise alignment.
Mating Error Prevention
Housing geometry and magnetic forces guide the parts toward their intended alignment, making incorrect mating much less likely.
Service Life
The pogo pin structure can accommodate tens of thousands of mating and unmating cycles. Certain specialized models can reach hundreds of thousands; the applicable cycle life depends on the model.
Release Under External Force
When an external pull reaches the connection, the magnetic interface can separate rather than transmit the full strain through the cable or port. This release mechanism helps reduce device falls and damage to the connector.
Flexible customization
Custom development can range from 1-pin interfaces to multi-pin connections, and from miniature formats to high-current designs. The equipment structure and electrical requirements determine the appropriate solution.
