Custom 4-Pin Magnetic Charging Cables

Magtor develops four-contact magnetic cables for OEM charging, power and optional signals. The circuit and interface requirements determine what each contact does; there is no fixed four-contact assignment.

  • Custom development: choose pitch, cable direction and termination.
  • 3A / Pin: available on the applicable listed configurations.
  • 10,000+ Cycles: intended for repeated magnetic docking.

90° vs 180° Magnetic Connector Cable

A battery, PCB or housing wall behind the charging port can make a 90° side outlet useful. If the rear area is open, a 180° outlet provides a straightforward cable path.

Square 4 Pin Magnetic Cable Connector

A square head can fit a specific enclosure opening and define the mating orientation. Its footprint and geometry guide the alignment of the male and female parts.

Send the opening dimensions, housing thickness, available mating area and intended outlet direction from the device drawing to review a square configuration.

Custom 4 Pin Magnetic Charging Cable for Your Device

An existing PCBA position, housing thickness, charging port and exterior design may leave a standard cable with the wrong pitch, inadequate clearance or incorrect polarity.

Magtor can adapt dimensions, contact assignments, cable length, conductor specification, polarity, magnetic force and outlet direction to the confirmed device requirements.

What Is a 4 Pin Magnetic Charging Cable?

Magnets align the cable with the device-side connector. Four pogo pin contacts then create the electrical paths as the parts meet.

Four describes contact count, rather than a fixed USB pinout. Define power, ground and other signals according to the project circuit.

How Should the 4 Pins Be Assigned?

The approved contact map and device circuit determine whether the cable serves charging alone or power and signals together. The two examples below are design approaches, rather than assignments shared by every Magtor model.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the four pins used for on a magnetic charging cable?
Four contacts can be assigned to power, ground and device-specific signals. The circuit may use them for charging with ID detection or for power and data together.
Does every 4 pin magnetic charging cable support data?
No. Contact count does not establish USB data support. The assigned wiring and device-side circuit determine the actual function.
How do I know if a 4 pin magnetic charger is compatible with my device?
Compare geometry, contact pitch, electrical polarity, magnetic polarity and working height with the device-side drawing before approving compatibility.
Should I choose a 90° or 180° magnetic cable?
Choose a 90° outlet for limited rear clearance and side routing. A 180° outlet suits an open area directly behind the interface.
Can the cable length and wire gauge be customized?
Cable length, AWG conductor size, outer diameter and jacket material can be selected for the voltage, current and routing requirements.
Can a 4 pin magnetic cable use USB-C?
USB-C can be the cable end. USB PD capability still depends on the specified circuit; a USB-C plug alone does not enable it.
Can Magtor match a cable from a sample or drawing?
We can review 2D/3D drawings or a physical sample to develop a compatible custom assembly.
What information is required before developing a custom 4 pin cable?
Provide head dimensions, contact assignments, voltage and current, 90° or 180° outlet direction, cable length, USB or open-wire ends and the application.
